Winter Sports Area Promotion (Venues)

Introduction

As a winter sports centered program, the Five Two Ten Initiative offers excellent opportunities for the Ski, Snowboard and other Recreation areas that take part in the program.  Not only will the Five Two Ten Initiative strive to increase interest and participation in the sports they cater to, we will work with sports venues to promote themselves on the regional and international level.  One of the goals of the Initiative is to increase appreciation for what our region offers to visitors and citizens all year round.  Through the hosting of world class competitions on a consistent basis, we build a base of spectators and participants who will become more familiar with the wide range of venues that our region supports.

Through the "Ski Here First Program" we will work to educate the public about the opportunities available in the region before, after and during the 2010 Games in Vancouver.

  1. Venue membership levels
    1. Preferred Program Venues (PV) These areas must meet specifications for at least two types of FIS sanctioned competitions.  They will be given preference in event venue selection, be included on all marketing materials and be able to use the Five Two Ten Logo for the life of the program.
    2. Event Venues (EV) These areas must meet specifications for at least one type of FIS sanctioned competitions.  These venues will host the events of the program that are not held at Preferred Program Venues.  They will be included in specific marketing literature and have access to the Five Two Ten Logo for use related to specific events.
    3. Associate Venues (AV) These are venues that may not meet qualifications for FIS sanctioned events, but wish to support the program.  They will have specific access to the Five Two Ten logo and will be considered for possible affiliated events.
  2. Benefits of Partnership
    1. Sponsorship and event development Partners will benefit from the Five Two Ten pre-developed sponsorship and experience based management of events to be hosted at the area.  This will increase event success and decrease event drain on area operations.(PV, EV)
    2. Marketing Program Rather than the current system of individual, sporadic events that compete for marketing time and space, the Five Two Ten Initiative will build a unified marketing program for our events and the venues that support them.  The wide regional basis of the program increases exposure to a broader audience than individual marketing programs.
    3. Increased Media Exposure As a host to international competitions in the years leading up to the 2010 Winter Games, the regional media will have increased interest in World Class Events that happen in the region and the areas in which the competitions are held.
    4. Supporting our Athletes As we prepare the region for the 2010 Winter Games, we aim to support a strong pool of local athletes to compete at the Olympics and Paralympics.  As a Five Two Ten Partner Area, you will be recognized for your support of developing athletes and the communities that they come from.
    5. Hosting Visiting Athletes and supporters As the host of international competition, you will gain access to international skiers and snowboarders as well as their supporters.  These people will have the chance to experience the venues and become advocates for them.
    6. Training Area Promotion The Five Two Ten Program will build a searchable database and promotional materials to be sent to national teams and federations prior to the 2010 Games.  We will work to bring pre-Olympic training to the entire region.
    7. Ski Here First Program Traditionally skier numbers drop a bit the year prior to and during the Olympic Games.  This program will focus on marketing the regions winter sports areas prior to, during and after the 2010 Games.  This program will be designed together with participating Winter Sports areas.
